Question by Cristina: How to I fix the installation alert on my Macbook when trying to update software?
I am trying to update my computer’s software and I keep getting this installation alert message that says to close iTunes in order to continue the installation. I have “x” ed out of iTunes and it still gave me the same message. I also tried restarting my computer without opening iTunes at all and the message still popped up. What am I doing wrong?

You forgot to mention which version of OS, and what application you are trying to update. Are you using Software Update from the Apple menu? That’s where you update all Apple apps.
Instead of “X-ing out” of iTunes, try quitting iTunes. Windows apps quit when you close their windows whether you like it or not. Mac apps usually don’t. They wait for you to quit them. You can safely close all windows without having the apps quit on you, so if you want to get right back to work, you can without having to go find the app and open it again.
